They have an ancient origin, often linked to rites, in particular to celebrate the seasons. Usually, it is to make the transition from winter to spring. They symbolized the light and warmth that repelled darkness and cold winter. Over the centuries, these practices have evolved, and these fires have taken on a more community and festive dimension.

Come to burn the winter season in Rochefort. A lot of great fires will be organised in Rochefort villages. Here is a list :

- 8 march : Eprave – rue Saint Nicolas
- 15 march : Lavaux-Sainte-Anne
- 15 march : Havrenne – at the entrance of the village – 18:30
- 29 march : Mont-Gauthier

- Access : the great fires are free and open to everyone. You can easily access it by car or public transport from the town of Rochefort.
- Advice : Remember to dress warmly, as the great fires take place in the evening and temperatures can be cool in winter.
