An ancestral tradition that still burns today !

Among the popular traditions in Wallonia, it is hard to miss the great fires.

They have an ancient origin, often linked to rites, in particular to celebrate the seasons. Usually, it is to make the transition from winter to spring. They symbolized the light and warmth that repelled darkness and cold winter. Over the centuries, these practices have evolved, and these fires have taken on a more community and festive dimension.

Access : the great fires are free and open to everyone. You can easily access it by car or public transport from the town of Rochefort.
Advice : Remember to dress warmly, as the great fires take place in the evening and temperatures can be cool in winter.

30th Rallye de la Famenne – August 23–24, 2025 in Rochefort

For its 30th edition, the Rallye de la Famenne promises to be exceptional. Organised by Écurie Bayard in partnership with the City of Rochefort, the event will be fully centred in the heart of the city, with the podium, marquee and service area all grouped around Square de l’Amicale.

From Friday afternoon and throughout the weekend, a vintage car gathering will bring life to the city centre with a concours, entertainment and a street market. Crews will tackle nearly 160 km of timed special stages around Rochefort.

Expect to see familiar faces like Harry Herion, Laurent Wilkin and Maxime Jaumin, who are well known in the rally.

Don’t miss the chance to (re)discover legendary cars in a unique setting!

Rochefort Sérénades

Summer will be lively in Rochefort with the grand return of the Rochefort Sérénades, from July 9 to August 20, 2025, every Wednesday evening at the Square de l’Amicale, an iconic venue in the city.

For this 2025 edition, the event will span seven evenings with a revamped format, combining musical discoveries and a festive atmosphere.

Each evening will feature two highlights:

Part One: An Interactive Music Competition

Two emerging bands or artists will take the stage to showcase their musical style. The audience, a true participant in the evening, will be able to vote for their favorite using a simple and participatory voting system. A great way to support the local scene, encourage new talent, and build connections around live music.

Part Two: Let’s party!

Starting at 9:30 p.m., a band will take over to rock the square. Lively covers, festive compositions, and infectious energy: everything will come together to dance, sing, and share a friendly moment outdoors.

The Rochefort Sérénades are a must-see summer musical event, combining proximity, diversity, and the joy of the open-air stage. Young and old, curious and music lovers alike, come one, come all! It’s free!

For 2025, Rochefort is coming with a brand new initiative that will delight lovers of artisanal creations and local products. Les Echoppes du Rire is setting up shop in the heart of the city for a first edition not to be missed.

This event will take place on Saturday, May 31st, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the center of Rochefort during the last weekend of the Festival International du Rire de Rochefort. It’s a perfect opportunity to discover local talent in a festive atmosphere.

Are you a local artisan, designer, or producer? This is the ideal opportunity to showcase your creations and share your passion with a wide audience. This craft market will showcase your authenticity, your expertise, and a diversity of local products.

Journée mondiale de la vie sauvage : découvrir et préserver la biodiversité

Le 3 mars marque la Journée Mondiale de la vie sauvage, une célébration essentielle pour rappeler l’importance de la préservation des espèces et leurs habitats. Cette journée vise généralement à sensibiliser le grand public aux menaces pesant sur la faune et la flore, tout en mettant en avant les initiatives qui contribuent à leur protection.

Pourquoi parle-t-on de cette journée ?

La biodiversité joue un rôle fondamental dans l’équilibre des écosystèmes et le bien-être humain. Pourtant, le braconnage, la déforestation, la pollution et le changement climatique mettent en péril de nombreuses espèces à travers le monde. Cette journée du 3 mars est l’occasion de réfléchir aux moyens d’agir à notre échelle, aussi petite soit elle, notamment en favorisant un tourisme plus respectueux de la nature.

Un tourisme plus responsable au service de la nature

Le tourisme peut être un puissant levier de sensibilisation et de préservation de la biodiversité lorsqu’il est pratiqué de manière plus durable.
