Every year the Carrefour BD takes place in Rochefort. This unmissable event takes place on Ascension Day during the Rochefort International Laughter Festival. Even today, humor and comics go well together: every self-respecting comic fan has the memory of a board or an album that made them smile or laugh.
Carrefour BD made its discreet debut with a drawing competition, bringing together students from Rochefort schools. A jury composed of the Alderman of Culture, school directors, local artists and a renowned author (like Dany, Lambil and Servais) rewarded works highlighting laughter and the city.
In 1993, Luc Toussaint, then President of Rochefort Tourisme and a fervent comic strip lover, launched the first real Carrefour BD. That day, Rochefort was transformed into a Wild West setting, with a scene where Morris, the creator of Lucky Luke, was attacked by fake Daltons during his trip on the tourist train to Han-sur-Lesse. The following year, Tibet was arrested in a humorous manner for having been “flashed” at 150 km/h on the Beez Viaduct, by five hooded police officers (Cauvin, Duchâteau, de Groot, Dany and Steeman).
Since then, the Laughter Festival and Rocheort Tourisme have been able to create an attractive event, offering a program that has proven itself: exchange scholarship, welcome of the guest of honor at the Town Hall, official speeches , activities for children in the streets and, at the end, a signing session.
Despite its departure, the spirit of Carrefour BD endures. Recent guests of honor include Godi, more “Ducobu” than ever, Bercovici, creator of “Women in White,” and Midam, author of “Kid Paddle,” who happily rediscovered old video games in 2009.
To celebrate the 44th Rochefort International Laughter Festival, the Syndicat d’Initiative is pleased to announce the organization of its 32nd Carrefour BD, which will be held on Thursday May 29, 2025. This unmissable event will bring together comic book enthusiasts and humor in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
